Freewheelers EV Blood Bike Service is a registered charity which offers an out of hours, free of charge courier service to the NHS. Each year Martin Elford and his fellow volunteers ride hundreds of thousands of miles making thousands of deliveries of urgently needed blood, specimens, breast milk and more. He will be at our June meeting to tell us more about this award-winning charity that provides such vital support to the NHS.
We are looking forward to an update on this amazing group of heroes who in 2008, in recognition of the dedicated work of their volunteers, we were given The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest honour a voluntary group can receive, equivalent in status to an MBE. In 2020, they celebrated their 30th year as a charity ‘Riding for Life’ their service is provided entirely by volunteers and they depend fully on public sponsorship and donations.
There will be the opportunity to make a cash donation after Martin’s talk.
