Volunteering at Wellington u3a

YOUR u3a NEEDS YOU!
Ask not what your u3a can do for you but what you can do for your u3a!
A u3a is Run by the Members, for the Members
There are many opportunities for members to get involved and lend a hand, to make your u3a run smoothly. You could help by joining the committee, helping with a social group or serving teas and coffee at an event.
The u3a movement exists to provide a framework where YOU can get involved in helping to create, join and run different learning-based activities, that will improve your knowledge and skills, enhance your physical and mental wellbeing and keep you socially connected.
If you would like to help out occasionally, regularly or join the committee, then please join our RUM (Really Useful Members) Group by contacting RUM = Really Useful Members Group We can then add your name to our list of volunteers who we can call on to lend a hand at events or with tasks to keep your u3a moving forward, to the advantage of all members.
We are particularly grateful to all non-committee volunteers who help to set up and pack away at these meetings.
Special thanks go to Mary Bradford and her team who prepare and serve the refreshments
A big thank you to Anna, who has looked after the registration table for several years but has now handed over the reins to Theresa & Annessa - so a warm welcome to them
We are also very grateful to Tina who runs the 'Book Corner' Don't forget to visit her at the back of the hall to seek out your favourite authors and take away any books you fancy free of charge!
If you are able to lend a hand at any of our meetings please contact RUM = Really Useful Members Group
Many hands make light work!
To help run our monthly meetings we have vacancies for volunteers in these areas:

Refreshments: We have one amazing volunteer who runs this indispensable service every month but struggles to get others to sign up to assist her. It would be really helpful for her to have a dependable team who could commit to one or two monthly meetings in the year. It’s not a difficult task and mainly involves serving the teas and coffees and chatting to members in the process. No washing up is involved as members bring their own mugs! Please contact RUM = Really Useful Members Group if you can help.
Welcome Team: Members of this group provide a welcoming friendly face to new members primarily at the monthly meetings to show them “the ropes”, introduce them to other members and answer any questions they might have. It’s a great way to get involved in your u3a and to meet and chat with your fellow members. If you would like to be a member of this invaluable team please contact RUM = Really Useful Members Group for further information.

Setting up and End of meeting: Most of the setting up of tables and chairs is already done before we take over the hall for our monthly meetings but there are other preparations that need to be completed before members arrive (eg, sound and visual equipment setting up when needed) and some packing up to do at the end, such as stacking the chairs. To enable the meetings to run smoothly and ensure we can exit the venue on time it would be really helpful if we could rely on some help to do this. Please get in touch with RUM = Really Useful Members Group if you are able to give us a helping hand.
We realise that not everyone is able to help and many of you have 'done your bit' in past years, for which we are very grateful, and that has enabled us to keep going as a community.
You don’t need to be a committee member in order to help on any of these teams or to commit to all meetings but in order for things to run smoothly it does need everyone to work together; so we would like to encourage you to take an active part, however small, in helping your u3a - every little helps!
